My name is Robert Green. I am a professional artist and educator teaching at Abilene Christian University. I create colorful, complex, and multi-layered abstract paintings.
All of the works featured on this site began with the language of maps as a starting point. In every instance, the purpose of that language has been subverted.
Trajectories
I create art using the language of maps. Initially, I used map markings to create abstract landscapes modeled after Chinese landscape drawings. On other occasions, I’ve used it to weave narrative and episodic visualizations of historic journeys. Additionally, I have used it to craft a visual analog for various compositional forms of music and to launch poetic expeditions into space-time.
My approach had been purposeful and exploratory. It results in nuanced works that reward viewers by unfolding perceptually and conceptually over time. Enjoy them on this website, but they really ought to be experienced in person.
